Ian Chappell to be ambassador for sports prediction app

A sports prediction network known as SportsHero has added cricket to its app, and recruited former Australian cricket captain Ian Chappell as its first global ambassador.

SportsHero was founded by Singapore-based MyHero, rebranding a previous app known as FootballHero. It is available for Android and iOS devices and also includes soccer.

Chappell, an outspoken and well-respected cricket commentator, captained Australia from 1971 to 1975. His brother, Greg, also captained for the country, while his grandfather Vic Richardson played for Australia. Another brother, Trevor, also donned Australian colours.

The addition of cricket to SportsHero has taken place now to take advantage of worldwide interest in the Indian Premier League or IPL. a Twenty20 annual competition that takes place in India.

The SportsHero app has more than 325,000 users, of which about 50,000 are active each month.

The app takes in Twenty20s, ODIs and Tests. Users can predict winners in the IPL and it has a social competition platform where the highest ranking fans in prediction leagues and rooms can win prizes.

The app has the aim of facilitating a sports culture and community, according to its owner Dinesh Bhatia.

Said Chappell: “Anyone who knows me would know that I’m very passionate about cricket. While SportsHero is an extension of my love for the game, it now lets me participate among a community of hundreds of thousands of fans - moving what was previously a handshake to one which is a share, a follow, a view or a Tweet. I’m excited to be engaging with these fans who share this mutual love for cricket.”

Chappell will be central to all cricket promotions undertaken by SportsHero, including media commentary and assisting SportsHero with the introduction and facilitation of additional key partners.

He will also provide SportsHero’s fans with insights and they will be able to follow his predictions and compete against him, including during the IPL tournament.
