IoT integration specialist RIoT Solutions has appointed Scott Reid as director of smart and connected networks.

"Scott's extensive experience and leadership in IoT will bring a whole new dimension to the way in which we target services for the design, implementation and security of IoT type solutions," said founder and managing director Rob Merkwitza.

"Scott will be a real boost to our already successful team bringing inspiration, experience and extensive knowledge to our long term IoT strategy."

Merkwitza added: "His passion in the IoT space is well recognised and will be a major accelerator for our business."

Reid joins the company from Cisco Systems where he was regional manager for Queensland, the Northern Territory, and Papua New Guinea.

Prior to Cisco, he held management positions at Silicon Data and Dell.

"While plenty of companies are talking about the Internet of Things, there has been very little execution to date. RIoT Solutions has a really strong focus on the Internet of Things. It's a major part of what they do, which gives them a competitive advantage no one else can match," said Reid.

Reid is a member of the Australian Information Industry Association and head of its infrastructure sub-committee, a member of the Infrastructure Advisory Committee to the Lord Mayor of Brisbane, a committee member of the Smart Connected Transportation Centre of Excellence, and sits on the board of the State Library of Queensland.
